New Delhi
Malaviya Jayanti at New Delhi was celebrated at Indian International Centre under the presidentship of Dr. Bhishma Narai Singh, former Union Minister and Governor and National President of Mahamana Malaviya Mission. Lord Meghnad Desai, the Keynote Speaker while paying tribute to Mahamana Malaviya ji said that several eminent leaders such as Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Ballabh Bhai Patel, Lok Manya Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Gopal Krishna Gokhale, Madan Mohan Malaviya, Lala Lajpat Rai and Dr. Rajendra Prasad played active role in the Freedom movement but it became Jawaharlal Nehru centric, though many of them had different ideologies and concept of India which was ignored. He felt there was need to rewrite history. Pt Nehru, a strong advocate of secularism wanted equal treatment to all religions keeping them out of state affairs. However, secularism for the Congress and other secular parties today means appeasement of Muslims in minority and grabbing their votes. He questioned “Does the status of Muslims as minority outranks them as Indian citizens”. Shri B. P. Singh, the former Governor of Sikkim said that 1860s saw the emergence of a galaxy of stars who were born during this period namely Pt Motilal Nehru, Rabindranath Tagore, Madan Mohan Malaviya, Swami Vivekanand who made outstanding contribution in the Freedom movement and the revival of Indian cultural ethos and stressed that India has its own cultural identity whichever part of the country one visits. Dr. Bhishma Narain Singh too had the same views. He said that in the heart of every Indian, there is the strong feeling of Indian nationalism. He elucidated the exemplary role played by Lord Meghnad Desai in the British House of Lords as leader of the Labour Party. He said that he was invited in London and Berlin to speak about Indian values so dear to Mahamana Malaviyaji. Speaking on the occasion, Shri P. L. Jaiswal, Founder Patron of Malaviya Mission said, “Malaviya ji was a towering personality of his time. He was an astute politician and challenged the injustice of repressive laws and fought for reform of regressive bills; a visionary educationist, he built a world class technical university and laid the foundation for India’s emergence as knowledge power; a fearless social reformer, he championed the cause of depressed classes and minorities and created forums to ensure equal rights for all; a passionate patriot, he fought to preserve India’s economic freedom; a devout spiritual leader he promoted the study of India’s spiritual heritage and led the revival of Hindu Dharma. While paying homage to this great son of the soil, Pt Jawaharlal Nehru said, “Malaviyaji is the foundation stone of the huge building of Independence. Though he may no longer be with us, he will live in the proud structure of free India. May we be worthy of him”. Prof. Lallan Prasad, President, in his welcome address spoke about the Hon’ble guests and the contribution made by them, particularly Lord Meghnad Desai and Shri Balmiki Prasad Singh. Dr. Usha Mathur, General Secretary, proposed the vote of thanks and mentioned the names of all distinguished guests and all those who worked hard to make the event a success. The above programme was followed by semi-classical music by Padm Bhushan Pt Chhannulal Mishra of Baharas which kept the audience spellbound during his recital for over an hour.
